We are excited to announce the upcoming installation of our 22nd and largest rain garden, located at St. Anselme Rotary Park in Dieppe. This Rain Garden is shaped like lungs and is featuring an abundance of native plants. This rain garden will be a significant addition to the area and will increase water quality in the nearby region by filtering floodwater runoffs. The grand opening is scheduled for September 20th from 5-7 p.m. We extend our thanks to the City of Dieppe and Green Communities Canada for their support in making this project possible.
Native plants are organisms that exist naturally within a particular region. These resilient species are vital members of a balanced ecosystem. Native plants have adapted over time to thrive in local environmental conditions alongside other native animals, pollinators, fungi, and bacteria. Native plants play an essential role in ecosystem interconnectivity. They provide food, shelter, and nesting material for insects, birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. Increasing the region’s native plant population supports pollinators and other wildlife, improves water sequestration, promotes biodiversity, and helps combat climate change.
We are still looking for volunteers to aid in the installation of the Rain Garden. We have volunteer shifts on September 7th: 1:00PM – 4:00PM, September 9th: 9:30AM-12:30PM and 1:00PM – 4:00PM, September 10th: 9:30AM – 12:30PM and 1:00PM – 4:00PM.
