July was a busy month for the PWA as we hosted a four-day training session in collaboration with 5R Environmental Consulting Inc. titled Discovering and Understanding the River Corridor Through Data Collection and Interpretation.
The training began with an introduction to fluvial geomorphology, where we learned how to conduct two key assessments: the Rapid Geomorphic Assessment and the Rapid Stream Assessment Technique.
The focus then shifted to watershed hydrology and hydraulics, giving us valuable knowledge we plan to apply within our own watershed. Following this, we explored aquatic habitats and the factors that influence their success.
The training concluded with a look at restoration techniques that can be applied to channels, valley corridors, banks, etc.
To practice our new skills, we visited the newly restored Glarro Farm riverbank. We conducted RGA and RSAT, measured cross-sections, collected bank data, and performed a pebble count.

Events like this help us connect with other watersheds and ensure that we all perform these assessments with consistency across the province.
Thank you to the Aquatic Ecosystems Restoration Fund for making this possible!
