We’re excited to share that this year’s native seed collection season has been a great success!

Over the past few weeks, our team has been harvesting a variety of native seeds. Including Common evening-primrose (Oenothera biennis) and Calico aster (Symphyotrichum lateriflorum) from our seed increase plot, Swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) from a large patch near our office parking lot, and Purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) from the rain garden beside our office.

We are also grateful to have received native seed donations from Loriella Farms this season, including Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata), Common evening-primrose, and Swamp milkweed. Thank you so much, Marie-Josée and John.

Our fall intern (Leah) will continue to weigh and package the seeds in our new custom Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance envelopes. Stay tuned for our upcoming outreach initiative, where we will be giving these seeds away for free with the goal to increase the availability of locally adapted plant species, to support ecosystem health and interactions.

Native Seed Workshop

And to build on these successes, we are thrilled to announce our very first Fall Native Seed Harvesting Workshop, which took place on November 23rd, 2025! This workshop would not have been possible without the support of our amazing Butterflyway Rangers, Karen Rogers and Pamela O’Brien, as well as our funders, the Environmental Trust Fund. A huge thank you to all of you. Stay tuned to our social media channels for updates and photos from the event.
