This season, the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance finished monitoring water quality at 21 sites across the Memramcook, Upper Petitcodiac, and Lower Petitcodiac subwatersheds. We measured 11 core parameters (temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, turbidity, salinity, total dissolved solids, nitrate, phosphate, total coliforms, and E. coli) and, at select sites, collected samples for the Surface Water Package (SWP) at the RPC Laboratory. We also retrieved temperature loggers in mid-October that had been installed in late May and early June. We’re now uploading and validating the datasets and moving into analysis, calculating site level Water Quality Index (WQI) scores to flag areas with poorer conditions and identifying any temperature exceedances. Stay tuned for the final WQ monitoring 2025 results. Thank you to the Environmental Trust Fund (ETF) for funding this project.

Stormwater:
This season, the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance completed two ≥15 mm rainfall sampling events at four Riverview storm drains to see what pollutants (nutrients, oils, and metals) are reaching our rivers. RPC laboratory analyzed nitrate, orthophosphate, total suspended solids (TSS), hydrocarbons, glyphosate, and trace metals; across sites, two event averages for all parameters were below guideline thresholds with normal variation between storms. Stay tuned for our upcoming outreach event and follow our social media for simple actions you can take to help keep stormwater clean. Thank you to the Town of Riverview for funding this project.
