The Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance participated, for the first time, in the Youth Forum on Learning for a Sustainable Future. We were so grateful to have the opportunity to engage with both students and teachers. We are planning several collaborations with schools located within our watershed. So, if you are a teacher and are interested in organizing activities with us in 2026, please don’t hesitate to send us an email!

Developing a free educational game on ecosystems and rain gardens
The project is progressing regarding the educational game we are developing with the help of Nanomonx. The game will be available online for free on the Troubadour website and will include two modules: one presenting the differences between a sustainable and a non-sustainable ecosystem, and the other focusing on the structure of rain gardens. We will also be able to offer an introductory presentation on the content needed to use the game.
Rain garden maintenance with CAFI’s Génér’Action
Even in cold weather, some rain gardens still need a bit of maintenance. We carried out an activity with the Centre d’accueil et d’accompagnement francophone pour immigrants (CAFI) for the youth in the Génér’Action program. They learned how to maintain a rain garden at Rotary Saint-Anselme Park, and together we planted 86 plants. It was an enriching activity not only for them, but for us as well! Thank you to everyone for your wonderful participation and support.

Troubleshooting early-stage challenges in new rain garden
After several heavy rains, we noticed that the garden had some difficulty absorbing such a large amount of water. This is quite common for new rain gardens that have not yet developed deep roots. To address this issue, we added rocks in different sections of the garden to help slow the flow of water and promote absorption. Even after building 24 rain gardens, unexpected situations can still occur, which is completely normal!
