Our field survey data includes: 9 patches observed, 7 sites surveyed, 4 field outings, and 1 square kilometer of land assessed. In between weathering the elements and completing our field surveys, we have been busy planning for another year of tackling this highly invasive plant. Working group meetings, invasive species forums, and workshops have helped to keep us informed and inspired, providing new ideas and approaches for invasive phragmites management moving forward.

               Native             Invasive

This year we aim to continue expanding our field surveys to grow our database and better understand the spread of invasive phragmites within our watershed. We also plan to increase awareness about this wetland intruder through outreach events and presentations. Strength comes from working together, and education lays the foundation for success.

This winter we were also able to participate in a seed head removal alongside the NBISC. Seed head removals are one technique for invasive phragmites management, and in 2026 we hope to be able to carry out a new removal trial within Moncton. Stay tuned – we’re hopeful that 2026 will be the project’s biggest year yet!
