We were grateful to finally get out and get our hands dirty after a long winter season. In May, we visited our seed increase plot at the Southeastern Co-op Country Store to check how it was doing. The weeds had already started taking over, so we took some time to remove them, as well as the old vegetation that had died off. We chatted with their garden centre manager and made a plan to revamp the plot.
Originally, our spot at the Southeastern Co-op Country Store included a rectangular-shaped garden (which we still actively use) and another garden in the corner. Unfortunately, that corner garden has not been able to be maintained, so we have only been focusing on the rectangular plot. We plan to redefine the rectangular plot with a wooden border and put the corner plot back to use!
The Southeastern Co-op Country Store will also be donating a few supplies toward the project. They will provide us with natural cedar mulch for both garden plots, as well as a few native and pollinator plant species to add to the corner plot.
