Having recently received funding to once again continue our freshwater mussel surveying efforts throughout our watershed, the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance has been busy at work preparing for our first surveys.
In preparation for the project, the PWA attended a training session with Darlene Elward from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, who has returned again this year to teach our staff how to identify and survey for freshwater mussels. Thanks to her training, the PWA is now fully trained and equipped with the knowledge and resources to begin our surveying efforts.
Ready to get started, our team at the PWA looks forward to starting on our freshwater mussel surveys within the coming weeks to identify important mussel habitat and examine the health of important species like the brook floater. We would like to thank Darlene for her expertise and training, and the NB Wildlife Trust Fund whose funding allows us to continue our efforts to protect these important and often overlooked creatures.
