Our team has been busy at work this year collecting water quality data throughout our watershed to build on our nearly three decades of water quality data. This August marks our fourth month of testing for this year, and with only two left for this summer, water quality sampling for the 2026 field season is nearly complete.
The PWA has also made sure to keep the SwimGuide website up to date with the latest E. coli data from some of our watershed’s most popular swimming spots. Be sure to give it a look if you plan on swimming at any of the following sites: Folly Lake, Gordon Falls, Jones Lake, Pollett River Swimming Hole, and Irishtown Nature Park (swimming at Irishtown may still be prohibited due to the cyanobacteria bloom!).
Additionally, in order to reduce litter from fishing and encourage the recycling of fishing line, the PWA has set out 5 fishing line bins, each equipped with a fishing line recycling bin, garbage can for trash, and a flybrary where fishermen can borrow and return fishing flies. We would like to thank the Hammond River Angling Association for providing the bins so that we can work toward the more sustainable use of our rivers.
Our regular water quality work also attracted the attention of the local wildlife, with a few brave animals coming to check out our work. Wildlife thriving at our sites is always something we are excited to see, as it is a good sign that the waterways and ecosystems that rely on them are staying healthy!
As always we would like to thank our funders and the New Brunswick Environmental Trust Fund for making this project possible. We look forward to completing the last of our Water Quality testing for the year in the coming months, and hope to share our results with you soon.
