Native Seeds
Project Overview
Native plants are organisms that exist naturally within a particular region. These resilient species are vital members of a balanced ecosystem. Native plants have adapted over time to thrive in local environmental conditions alongside other native animals, pollinators, fungi, and bacteria.
Since 2023, the PWA’s Native Plant Seed Increase project aims to increase the seeds of local varieties of plants in our watershed. Our region currently has a lack of available plant material to conduct restoration projects and help households interested in using their available land to have a positive impact on our local environment by growing more native plants to help our pollinators and birds, improve water sequestration, promote biodiversity, and combat climate change.
Households can join our effort by growing native plants at home, collecting seeds to share with other plant enthusiasts in the community, and spreading the word!
By caring for native plants, you contribute to the conservation of our natural heritage, improve ecosystem health, and help create a sustainable environment for generations to come.
Our project aims to increase the availability of seeds for use in the improvement of ecosystems primarily in urban areas, while at the same time helping to educate the average person on the benefits of native plants through outreach.
