Building community
Education & Outreach
Providing workshops and educating the public is an important component of our work. The PWA hosts and facilitates both online and in-person presentations, workshops, meetings, and school presentations to increase climate resilience through education. We can also be found at many events and festivals across the watershed promoting research and information regarding the health of our environment. Contact us with any ideas regarding events or to book a speaker.
Stormwater
Stormwater is the rain and melting snow that flows across our streets, lawns, and driveways, picking up pollutants like nutrients, bacteria, heavy metals, oils, and pesticides before entering local waterways. The Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance tested stormwater at four Riverview sites and found that while most pollutants were low, moderate iron and high chromium levels could pose risks to aquatic life. By understanding what’s in our stormwater, we can take simple steps such as picking up pet waste, avoiding fertilizers, and preventing chemicals from entering drains, to help protect the health of our rivers and the ecosystems that depend on them.
Native Seeds Booklet
The Native Seed Booklet is a visual and educational guide created by the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance to inspire interest in native plants and their role in restoring biodiversity. Available in both English and French, this beginner-friendly resource features detailed profiles on four remarkable species (Clematis virginiana, Verbena hastata, Asclepias incarnata, and Iris versicolor), highlighting their ecological importance, growth habits, and seed collection methods. Designed for community members, gardeners, and educators, this booklet aims to encourage the propagation of native plants to benefit local ecosystems, the economy, and pollinators alike.
Workshops
The PWA offers workshops related to our many projects such as rain gardens, environmental monitoring, waste reduction and microplastics, watershed health and management, and others. Are you interested in having us do a workshop with your group? Contact us!
